St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Home Care
nurse achieves special certification

COALDALE, PA. - Georgine S. Flyzik, RN, BS, St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Home Care, has successfully achieved certification as OASIS Specialist - Clinical and may now use the designation, COS-C, in addition to her nursing titles. The Outcome Assessment Information Set (OASIS) is a quality measure used in home health agencies across the country to enhance care for patients in the home. Among its many other distinguishing features, St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Hospital Home Care is the only agency of its kind in the area that has an individual with these special certifications.
Ms. Flyzik has been the coordinator for performance improvement at St. Luke’s Miners Memorial Home Care for the past 12 years. In November 2004, she achieved additional certification as a home care coding specialist.
To achieve the COS-C designation, which is sponsored by the OASIS Certificate and Competency Board, an individual must successfully complete a 100-item, two-and-a-half-hour exam. Initiated in October, 2004, more than 700 home care clinicians from around the country have achieved this status, and more than 1,000 home care clinicians have taken the exam.
The OASIS Certificate and Competency Board, Inc. is a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting greater reliability in OASIS data, through consistent application of guidelines provided by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).
